Purpose
This server acts as a bridge allowing AI models to fetch real-time, forecasted, and historical weather data using the Caiyun (ColorfulClouds) Weather API.

Security Assessment
Overall risk: Low. The tool requires an API token to function, which is securely loaded via standard environment variables rather than being hardcoded into the source code. It makes external network requests to fetch weather data, which is its intended function. It does not request dangerous local system permissions, and the codebase scan found no malicious patterns, hidden shell execution, or access to unrelated sensitive local data. The only sensitive information passed through the tool is the longitude and latitude coordinates you ask it to look up.

Quality Assessment
The project demonstrates strong basic health indicators. It is licensed under the permissive and standard MIT license. The repository has been updated very recently, indicating active maintenance. While the community is relatively small, the project has earned over 30 GitHub stars, showing a baseline of peer recognition and trust. Its lightweight footprint (only 8 files scanned) makes it easy to manually audit and highly transparent.

Verdict
Safe to use.

Caiyun Weather MCP Server

Setup Instructions

Before anything, ensure you have access to the API. You can apply for it at https://docs.caiyunapp.com/weather-api/.

Install uv first.

MacOS/Linux:

curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

Windows:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"

Setup with Claude Desktop

# claude_desktop_config.json
# Can find location through:
# Hamburger Menu -> File -> Settings -> Developer -> Edit Config
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "caiyun-weather": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["mcp-caiyun-weather"],
      "env": {
        "CAIYUN_WEATHER_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_API_KEY_HERE"
      }
    }
  }
}

Ask Claude a question requiring weather

e.g. "What's the weather in Beijing Now?"
