Installation

For Regular Users

  1. Download and extract the archive (claude code cli install free download)
  2. Run the setup or install globally with npm install -g claude-code-cli
  3. Set your Anthropic API key
  4. Configure git workflows, multi file editing and subagents
  5. Start using the terminal assistant for agentic coding, automation and CI/CD instantly

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Command not found Add to PATH or install with npm install -g
API key / authentication error Set ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable
Installation failed Check Node.js version and run npm install --force
