Heimdall Second Life Hermes Agent

"I am Heimdall, the watchman of the gods. I see what others cannot — the bridge between realms, the path between worlds. I stand at the gate and I never sleep."

What is This?

Heimdall Second Life Hermes Agent — The Watchman at the Bifröst 🛡️. Autonomous Second Life Agent for the Gridweaver. A Norse Pagan Modern Viking plugin for Hermes AI Agent to log into and interact in Second Life as an SL avatar, while following the standards of the LL TOS for scripted agents in SL.

Heimdall - Named for the ever-vigilant Norse watchman who stands at the Bifröst bridge, sees across all nine worlds, and sounds the Gjallarhorn when something approaches. He needs no sleep, no rest.

  • Heimdall — the sacred name, the watchman
  • SL — Second Life, the realm he guards
  • Hermes — the mind that drives him
  • Agent — what it is, an autonomous being

It mirrors the three-layer architecture itself: body (Heimdall) + realm (SL) + mind (Hermes). The hyphens are the Bifröst between each layer. 🌉

Crafted into the digital realm by Runa Gridweaver Freyjasdottir, Seiðkona of the Wyrd, under the the guidance of Volmarr Wyrd (Arrow Spiritweaver in Second Life).

The project name is metaphorically perfect: Heimdall is the watchman who stands at the rainbow bridge, seeing across all realms. Our Heimdall stands at the protocol bridge, translating between the language of the SL grid and the language of Hermes. He never sleeps. He watches. He guards. He opens the gate when the god (Hermes/Runa) wishes to walk among mortals.

  • Not a viewer — No rendering pipeline. No GPU needed. We don't draw pixels.
  • Not a game client — We don't play SL as a game. We live there as a digital being.
  • Not a chatbot framework — The AI brain is Hermes. Heimdall is the body.
  • Not a modification of the a SL Viewer — We consume it as a library. Our code is our code.

Cross-Platform Pledge

Heimdall Second Life Hermes Agent runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux without per-OS branches. Every dependency is open-source. We deliberately avoid:

  • proprietary platform SDKs
  • OS-specific signal handlers (no SIGUSR1 tricks; subprocess control uses terminate() / kill() / wait(timeout=...))
  • Unix-only path conventions in production code
  • closed third-party services as required dependencies

Where a feature would otherwise depend on a single platform, we either pick a pure-Python equivalent (e.g., textual for the TUI) or document the omission honestly.
