📖 What Is ai-film-skills?

ai-film-skills is a complete toolkit that gives you 19 ready-to-use AI skills for every stage of movie production. Whether you’re a YouTuber, short-film maker, or content creator, these skills help you plan, direct, and produce videos faster by using AI assistants like Claude, CodeBuddy, Codex, Trae, and WorkBuddy.

Think of it like a Swiss Army knife for filmmaking—each skill serves a specific job, from writing a director’s script to generating color palettes and storyboard layouts.

🧰 What’s Inside?

The 19 skills are grouped into five main categories:

  • Shot List Creator – Turns your script into a production-ready shot-by-shot list.

🔧 Step-by-Step Setup (Windows)

Follow these simple steps to get ai-film-skills working:

Step 1: Visit the Download Page

Click the blue Download button at the top of this page. It takes you to the official releases page.

Step 2: Choose the Latest Version

Look for the newest release file (usually named ai-film-skills-latest.zip). If you see older versions, always pick the topmost one.

Step 3: Download the File

Click the file name to download it. Your browser will save the ZIP file to your Downloads folder by default.

Step 4: Find the Downloaded File

Open your File Explorer (Windows key + E), go to Downloads, and locate the file you just downloaded.

Step 5: Extract the ZIP File

Right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All…. Follow the prompts to unzip it to a folder of your choice (for example, C:\ai-film-skills).

Step 6: Open the Extracted Folder

Double-click the newly created folder to open it. You’ll see a folder called skills and a few instructional text files.

Step 7: Connect to Your AI Assistant

These skills work inside your chosen AI assistant (Claude, CodeBuddy, etc.). Open your AI app and locate the “Skills” or “Custom Instructions” section. Then import the individual skill files from the skills folder.

💡 Pro tip: The included README.txt inside the downloaded folder explains how to upload skills for each specific AI tool.

Step 8: Start Filmmaking

Once imported, you can ask your AI to use any skill by name—like “Use the Storyboard Layout Generator for my chase scene.”

✅ How to Verify It’s Working

After importing a skill, test it with a sample prompt:

  1. Open your AI assistant.
  2. Type: Use the Shot List Creator for a 2-minute coffee shop scene.
  3. If you get a structured shot list with columns for shot size, camera move, and action, everything is working.

🆘 Troubleshooting Common Issues

“I don’t see my AI assistant in the list.”

The skills are plain-text instructions, so they work with any modern AI chat interface. Just copy the text inside a skill file and paste it into your AI’s conversation window.

“The ZIP file won’t extract.”

Windows sometimes blocks downloaded ZIPs. Right-click the ZIP → Properties → check Unblock → apply, then extract again.

“No skills appear after import.”

Make sure you copied the entire content of each .md skill file into the correct "Skills" or "Custom Instructions" area of your AI tool. Some tools require you to save each one separately.

“AI doesn’t follow the skill instructions well.”

Try putting the skill text at the very beginning of your conversation. This acts like a “brief” that the AI reads before responding.
