This tool is a fair-code workflow automation platform featuring native AI capabilities and over 400 integrations. It allows technical teams to build automated processes visually or with custom JavaScript and Python code.
Security Assessment
The automated scan checked 2 files and found no hardcoded secrets, dangerous code patterns, or requests for excessive permissions. However, as an automation engine, the platform inherently processes the data you feed it, makes network requests to integrate with external services, and executes custom user-written code. Overall risk is rated as Low for the base MCP server, though actual risk depends entirely on the specific workflows you build and the third-party APIs you connect it to.
Quality Assessment
The repository is highly active, with its most recent code push occurring today. That said, this specific fork suffers from very low community visibility, having only 5 GitHub stars. This is highly unusual given that the official upstream project is a massively popular, enterprise-grade platform. The project uses a custom "Sustainable Use License" (fair-code) rather than a standard open-source license, which was flagged as "NOASSERTION" by the scanner. This means it is source-available and self-hostable, but not strictly open-source.
Verdict
Use with caution — consider using the official upstream project instead of this low-visibility fork to ensure better security and community support.

What does n8n mean?
Short answer: It means "nodemation" and is pronounced as n-eight-n.
Long answer: "I get that question quite often (more often than I expected) so I decided it is probably best to answer it here. While looking for a good name for the project with a free domain I realized very quickly that all the good ones I could think of were already taken. So, in the end, I chose nodemation. 'node-' in the sense that it uses a Node-View and that it uses Node.js and '-mation' for 'automation' which is what the project is supposed to help with. However, I did not like how long the name was and I could not imagine writing something that long every time in the CLI. That is when I then ended up on 'n8n'." - Jan Oberhauser, Founder and CEO, n8n.io
